About the position

The Registered Nurse, Surgical 2 position at McLeod Health is a full-time role focused on providing high-quality nursing care to patients in a surgical setting. The nurse will assess patient needs, plan individualized care, and implement appropriate nursing interventions while maintaining professional standards and fostering a compassionate environment. This role also includes responsibilities such as conducting hourly rounds, contributing to departmental performance, and participating in educational growth.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a professional image and exhibit excellent customer relations to patients, visitors, physicians, and co-workers.
  • Assess needs of patients based on history, observation, physical examination, and diagnostic data analysis.
  • Plan individualized nursing care to meet the holistic age-specific needs of patients.
  • Provide appropriate nursing interventions consistent with the Plan of Care and standards of practice.
  • Conduct hourly rounds using service excellence standards.
  • Foster an environment demonstrating caring, compassion, and respect for all patients, families, and visitors.
  • Utilize appropriate health and safety equipment to protect both patient and staff.
  • Care for central lines, foley catheters, pressure ulcers, ventilators, restraints, and patients at risk for falls.
  • Contribute to the daily efficient performance of the department as charge nurse when assigned.
  • Precept novice employees to contribute to overall departmental performance.
  • Participate in hospital-system initiatives cultivating nursing-involved Evidence Based Practices.
  • Demonstrate continued professional growth through goal setting and educational offerings.

Requirements

  • Zero to less than 1 year of related work experience.
  • BLS certification (Required for ALL nurses).
  • Advanced Resuscitative Certification appropriate to their patient population if serving in a Charge Nurse or PCS position.

Nice-to-haves

  • Specialty certification preferred.
