About the position

The position involves providing direct care to residents in accordance with their care plans, policies, procedures, and guidelines. The role also includes supervising daily nursing activities performed by Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN), Medication Assistants Certified (MAC), and Certified Nursing Assistants (CNA). The nurse will be responsible for ensuring that care is rendered according to the resident's plan of care and facility policies during their assigned shift.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day nursing functions of LPNs, MACs, and CNAs on designated nursing units during the assigned shift.
  • Provide resident care including assessments, care planning, treatments, medications, interventions, and communications according to care plans and physician orders.
  • Document residents' responses to care consistent with applicable policies and regulations.
  • Communicate with physicians, Director of Nursing Services, and other employees regarding resident status and shift activities.
  • Make rounds with physicians and document care and treatment as indicated.
  • Review and transcribe physician orders according to policy and ensure execution of orders.
  • Meet with residents and/or family members as necessary and report problem areas to the Supervisor.
  • Complete medication pass audits and count medications as assigned, reporting discrepancies to the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Complete forms, communication records, and reports as required.
  • Coordinate resident activities with other staff members and departments, informing staff of new admissions.
  • Report discrepancies, problems, and/or issues regarding resident care to the Director of Nursing/Assistant Director of Nursing.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as directed by supervisor.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and licensed as a Registered Nurse - RN by the State of Alabama.
  • One (1) year experience in a skilled nursing facility preferred.
  • Must possess a current, unencumbered license to practice as a Registered Nurse in this state.
  • Must possess and maintain current CPR certification.
  • Must possess computer skills and demonstrate the ability to become proficient with appropriate software.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
