About the position

The new LTAC Unit located inside St. Vincent's Main is seeking a Registered Nurse (RN) to provide direct care to adult and geriatric patients. The RN will specialize in delivering safe, efficient, and therapeutically effective nursing care, tailored to the specific diseases or disorders of individual patients. This role is integral to the coordinated therapeutic care plan for patients in the hospital.

Responsibilities

  • Formulates a plan of care or follows established patient care protocols considering physical, psychosocial, educational, and discharge needs.
  • Performs admission assessments and documents findings appropriately.
  • Initiates individual plans of care and discharge planning upon admission, modifying as necessary based on patient condition.
  • Participates in weekly patient care conferences to plan multidisciplinary patient care.
  • Explains nursing interventions and provides education to patients or responsible persons based on their comprehension level.
  • Provides patient care discharge instructions consistent with comprehension levels and documents appropriately.
  • Performs basic and specialized nursing skills, including management of ET tubes, ABGs/venipuncture, central line care, and pressor drip monitoring.
  • Operates electronic life support equipment, including monitoring equipment, defibrillators, and ventilators.
  • Responds to life-threatening situations and follows established protocols to sustain life.
  • Manages central venous catheters and PICC lines.
  • Provides rehabilitative care according to standards.
  • Analyzes physical and psychological changes and implements appropriate interventions or notifies relevant personnel.
  • Completes patient care assignments and answers communication systems promptly.
  • Transcribes physician orders and completes hospital forms accurately.
  • Documents administration of medications and explains nursing interventions to health team members.
  • Demonstrates or supervises procedures and treatments performed by staff or orientees and documents appropriately.
  • Assists with record keeping and program development.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing.
  • Registered Nurse (RN) license by the State of Alabama.
  • Minimum of two (2) years critical care nursing experience preferred.
