About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) - Step Down position at Mercy Health's St. Charles Hospital is focused on delivering exceptional nursing care to patients transitioning from intensive care to a less intensive care environment. This role requires strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, develop care plans, and ensure a safe therapeutic environment while collaborating with an interdisciplinary care team.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional nursing care to patients in the Step Down unit.
  • Utilize strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status.
  • Act as the service line between Med-Surg and ICU units.
  • Determine the priority of the patient's problems and needs.
  • Develop and perform patient care plans to enhance and improve outcomes.
  • Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary care team.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing patient assessments, analyze assessment data, create a plan of care, implement treatment, and evaluate treatment effectiveness.
  • Serve as point of contact for patients' care coordination throughout hospital departments.
  • Act as a patient safety advocate by participating in ongoing quality improvement in the department.
  • Administer medications in a safe manner consistent with the State of Practice and the organization's policies and procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
  • 1 year of RN experience (required).
  • 6 months RN experience in an acute care hospital setting (preferred).
  • BLS Basic Life Support or ACLS Advanced Cardiac Life Support (preferred at hire, must obtain from approved source prior to direct patient care, ACLS required within 6 months of hire).
  • Bachelor of Science Nursing (preferred, not required).
