About the position

The Clinical Nurse 1 New to Practice/Apprentice is a newly licensed RN or RN with less than 15 months of experience, responsible for providing direct patient care across various age groups. This role emphasizes the integration of nursing concepts, skills, and attitudes to meet professional standards, while working closely with an interprofessional healthcare team. The nurse is expected to demonstrate growth in caring for increasingly complex patients and must complete all required competencies to advance to the Clinical Nurse 2 level within 18 months.

Responsibilities

  • Incorporates the Lancaster General Health mission, vision, and values into planning patient care.
  • Functions as an independent and interdependent member of the health care team.
  • Performs patient assessments focusing on physiological, psychological, and cognitive functions.
  • Evaluates progress toward attainment of outcomes and adapts the plan of care based on recognized trends and changes.
  • Collects and manages comprehensive data pertinent to the patient's health or the situation.
  • Analyzes assessment data to determine the diagnosis or issues.
  • Formulates age-appropriate and culturally sensitive plans of care.
  • Implements care knowledgeably and coordinates patient care across several disciplines.
  • Provides leadership to team members by communicating expected standards of care.
  • Educates patients about healthy practices and treatment modalities.
  • Participates in process improvement activities to enhance continuity in nurse-patient relationships.

Requirements

  • RN licensure issued by the PA Board of Nursing is required.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) or higher level nursing degree is required.
  • New hires with a temporary practice permit must sit for their NCLEX within 60 days of starting in their RN role.
  • CPR Certification from the American Heart Association required within 30 days of hire.
  • Must be a healthcare provider in good standing with Medicare, Medicaid, and other federal and state health insurance programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a clinical setting as a nursing student or graduate nurse.
