About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the NICU at Holy Name Medical Center is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients with varying health care needs. This role involves assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care in a dynamic environment, ensuring adherence to professional standards and ethical guidelines. The RN will also engage in leadership activities, mentoring, and support for nursing staff, while actively participating in quality improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver patient care in accordance with the ANA Scope and Standards of Care and Practice, Patient Bill of Rights, and the ANA Code of Ethics for Nurses.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate the patient plan of care according to changing health care needs.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient teaching using appropriate education resources and evaluate the effectiveness of the teaching.
  • Model effective leadership skills through role modeling, mentoring, and effective communication.
  • Assume charge nurse responsibilities as assigned.
  • Delegate and supervise the practice of ancillary staff (LPN's, PCA's, Tech's, Unit Secretaries, etc.) and ensure compliance with NJ Scope of Practice guidelines.
  • Support a professional practice environment by functioning as a role model and resource person, and participate in the orientation of other unit employees.
  • Participate in unit-based and organization-wide activities, committees, and community activities as appropriate.
  • Identify own learning needs and pursue educational support to meet these needs.
  • Utilize Evidence Based Practice literature and policy manuals to ensure consistency and accuracy in care delivery.
  • Participate actively in the Performance Improvement process to evaluate the quality of nursing care delivered to patients.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Minimum one-year current clinical experience preferred.
  • Excellent clinical assessment skills, communication skills, and time management skills.
  • Current NJ License upon hire required for RN - Registered Nurse.
  • BCLS - Basic Life Support certification through American Heart Association upon hire required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's Degree (BSN) preferred.
  • National certification related to specialty area upon hire preferred.
  • ACLS - Advanced Cardiac Life Support may be required dependent on specialty area.
  • PALS - Pediatric Advanced Life Support may be required dependent on specialty area.
  • NRP - Neonatal Resuscitation may be required dependent on specialty area.
