About the position

The position involves coordinating daily activities of the nursing department, scheduling staff in conjunction with established staff to patient ratios and budgetary guidelines. The role includes attending management meetings and conducting department meetings to communicate information to staff, as well as communicating with vendors to keep current with the latest technological advances and service needs. The individual ensures that department equipment is maintained in a safe and orderly condition and maintains positive relationships with medical staff for continuous improvement of satisfaction levels. The position actively promotes the service line in accordance with strategic initiatives and assures regulatory compliance while maintaining competency in bedside care. The role provides leadership to staff in a collaborative environment that offers job satisfaction, education, empowerment, recognition, and stimulates innovative thinking. The individual collaborates with the Manager/Director to recruit, hire, orient, and train new employees, and conducts annual and ongoing appraisals of employee performance. The position communicates job standards and expectations, leads regular meetings with employees, and fosters an environment for effective communication. Under the supervision of the department director and manager, the individual collaborates with department and site leadership in preparing the annual operating and capital budgets, which reflect an understanding of strategic initiatives and financial goals of Mercy Health. The role manages services in accordance with approved budgetary guidelines and manages inventory of equipment and supplies to meet established par levels.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • BSN required.
  • BLS, ACLS required.
  • Critical care experience required.
  • Two years of clinical nursing experience preferred.
  • One year of previous charge nurse or shift lead experience preferred.
