About the position

The position is for a Registered Nurse (RN) in a 36-bed post-surgical unit specializing in orthopedics, general surgery, and plastic surgery. The unit also accommodates patients with tuberculosis or shingles in negative pressure rooms and serves as a medicine overflow unit for patients with Cystic Fibrosis. The RN will care for patients in various stages of pre-and post-surgical care, focusing primarily on orthopedics, emphasizing patient mobility and recovery. The work environment is described as fast-paced with a supportive team culture, offering a 1:4 or 1:5 RN-to-patient ratio, allowing for the development of fundamental nursing skills.

Responsibilities

  • Utilizes the nursing process to assess, diagnose, identify outcomes, plan, implement and evaluate an individualized plan of care.
  • Anticipates and recognizes changes in patient status, modifying the plan of care or elevating to the care team as necessary.
  • Practices in accordance with the ANA Code of Ethics to advocate for patients and uphold their autonomy in decision-making.
  • Actively seeks feedback and acts to improve performance.
  • Engages in the governance of practice and manages interpersonal relationships.
  • Mentors colleagues for the advancement of nursing practice and the profession.
  • Assumes authority and accountability for the nursing care of patients while delegating elements of care appropriately.
  • Prioritizes and organizes time to optimize patient outcomes.
  • Seeks out the most current evidence and applies it to daily practice.
  • Role models a culture of inquiry and contributes to research and quality improvement.
  • Communicates effectively in various formats in all areas of practice.
  • Partners with others to effect change that produces positive outcomes through knowledge exchange.
  • Precepts student nurses and other members of the healthcare team.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Nursing Program required.
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing (BSN) with 1 year of experience or Associate Degree (ADN) with 2 years' experience.
