About the position
The Registered Nurse (RN) - Behavioral Health position at Rappahannock General Hospital involves providing exceptional nursing care to patients with acute psychiatric disorders. The role requires strong organizational and leadership skills to assess patient status, implement clinical nursing interventions, and develop patient care plans to enhance outcomes. The RN will work within a collaborative team environment to ensure a safe and therapeutic setting for patients.
Responsibilities
- Provide direct patient care according to the provider's prescribed plan of care while closely monitoring progress/recovery.
- Assess and document the patient's conditions and report changes as needed.
- Administer medication, insulin, and IV/fluids, documenting thoroughly.
- Inspect and care for wounds, changing dressings and assisting with personal hygiene.
- Apply effective interviewing skills to elicit information from patients and/or family/significant others necessary to plan and implement the treatment plan.
- Assess patients for further injuries, infections, bedsores, etc., and deliver appropriate treatments.
- Collaborate with providers, aides, and allied health professionals to ensure exceptional patient outcomes.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited Associates degree or Bachelor's degree in Nursing.
- Current state licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
- PALS Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification (required for Pediatric BH Units).
- One (1) year of professional experience practicing as a Registered Nurse (RN).
Nice-to-haves
- Recent Behavioral Health experience (preferred, not required).
- EPIC Electronic Health Record training (preferred, not required).
- De-Escalation Training (preferred, not required).
