About the position

ECU Health Medical Center, one of four academic medical centers in North Carolina, is the 974-bed flagship hospital for ECU Health and serves as the primary teaching hospital for The Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University. ECU Health Medical Center has achieved Magnet designation twice and provides acute and intermediate care, rehabilitation and outpatient health services to a 29-county region that is home to more than 1.4 million people. The position is responsible for providing care in accordance with the North Carolina Board of Nursing-Nurse Practice Act, American Nurses Association Standards of Practice and other standards established by profession/professional groups, regulating bodies/agents. Nursing care will be delivered in accordance with ECU Health and entity specific nursing policies, procedures and professional standards of care/practice. The role includes the provision and coordination of nursing care, collection and analysis of assessment data, identification of expected outcomes, and development of a plan of care in collaboration with the patient/family and other interdisciplinary team members. The nurse will identify interventions to attain expected outcomes, implement the interventions identified in the plan of care, evaluate the progress of the patient/family toward attainment of outcomes, and document the process. This care includes sensitivity to age specific and unique needs of the patient/family. Additionally, the nurse promotes and evaluates the effective functioning of the health care team, collaborates with team members to meet the identified needs of the patient/family throughout the episode of care, and delegates tasks and activities as appropriate and governed by NC Nurse Practice Act.

Responsibilities

  • Provide nursing care in accordance with the North Carolina Board of Nursing-Nurse Practice Act.
  • Deliver care based on American Nurses Association Standards of Practice.
  • Collect and analyze assessment data for patient care.
  • Identify expected outcomes and develop a plan of care in collaboration with the patient/family and interdisciplinary team.
  • Implement interventions identified in the plan of care and evaluate patient progress.
  • Document the nursing process and patient outcomes.
  • Promote effective functioning of the health care team and collaborate with team members.
  • Delegate tasks and activities as appropriate.

Requirements

  • Current North Carolina Registered Nurse license or licensure to practice in a participating Nurse Licensure Compact state.
  • American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification.
