About the position

The Registered Nurse PRN Premium ED OBS position is responsible for coordinating and delivering patient care in the Emergency Department Observation Unit. This role emphasizes teamwork, patient education, and discharge planning while maintaining high standards of care and compliance with hospital policies. The nurse will work in a dynamic environment, ensuring patient safety and satisfaction through effective communication and adherence to professional standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides a positive and professional representation of the organization.
  • Promotes a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.
  • Maintains hospital standards for a clean and quiet patient environment to enhance patient care experience.
  • Maintains competency and knowledge of current standards of practice, trends, and developments in nursing.
  • Adheres to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Participates in ongoing quality improvement activities.
  • Maintains compliance with organization's policies and established practices, protocols, and procedures.
  • Complies with organizational and regulatory policies for handling confidential patient information.
  • Demonstrates excellent customer service through attitude and actions consistent with the organization's Vision, Mission, and Values.
  • Adheres to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Plans, organizes, and directs nursing functions for patients on the unit.
  • Initiates and implements patient care plans.
  • Makes nursing assignments appropriate to the skill level of employees.
  • Maintains acceptable standards of patient care and identifies problems for resolution.
  • Creates a working climate that fosters growth and job satisfaction of personnel.
  • Accurately implements physicians' orders and administers medications and intravenous solutions skillfully.
  • Maintains accurate and complete recording and reporting standards.
  • Arranges for needed supplies and equipment.
  • Participates in planning changes and improvements in patient care.
  • Supports and enforces infection-control policies and procedures.
  • Is resourceful and calm in emergencies and participates in orientation and in-service training for personnel.
  • Participates in unit and department performance improvement plans and assists in reviewing and revising policies and procedures.
  • Maintains and respects patients' privacy and confidentiality.
  • Displays concern and initiative, cooperating with nursing staff, medical staff, and other departments.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited program in nursing.
  • Current Registered Nurse license to practice in the state.
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Previous experience in general duty nursing preferred, but not required.
