About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position at DHR Health is a PRN role focused on providing high-quality nursing care to surgical patients. The RN will be responsible for planning, executing, directing, and evaluating both direct and indirect nursing care throughout the perioperative experience, from pre-operative to post-operative phases. The role emphasizes collaboration with other healthcare professionals to ensure effective patient care and adherence to established clinical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Promote the facility mission, vision, and values by effectively communicating them to others.
  • Prepare the surgical suite for procedures, including opening sterile supplies and preparing equipment.
  • Maintain count on sponges, needles, and instruments to ensure no loss of items according to policy.
  • Perform all circulating duties with efficiency and speed.
  • Supervise and assist scrub technicians as necessary.
  • Position patients and prepare the operative area according to standards.
  • Assist surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other personnel to ensure good patient care.
  • Ensure all medications are administered and charted according to established policies and procedures.
  • Provide timely responses to meet the needs of patients and physicians.
  • Support and promote the organization's Infection Control, Safety, and Risk Management Programs.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.
  • Current registered nurse license in good standing in the State of Texas.
  • Current BLS certification within 6 months of hire for Women's Hospital employees.
  • ACLS certification within 6 months of hire.
  • NRP certification within 6 months of hire for Women's Hospital employees.
  • One to two years of progressive experience as an Operating Room Nurse preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of OR nursing and standards is preferred.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills required.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English required.

  • Bilingual communication skills preferred.
  • Hospital experience preferred.
