About the position

The Nurse Resource Pool/Float Registered Nurse (RN) at the Wilmington VAMC is responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care across multiple patient care units. This role emphasizes leadership, collaboration, and the implementation of evidence-based practices to enhance patient outcomes. The RN will work in a dynamic environment, adapting to various clinical settings while ensuring high-quality care for a diverse veteran population.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of nursing policies and procedures.
  • Provide direct and indirect nursing care to patients in multiple care units.
  • Conduct systematic assessments of patients and ensure accurate documentation of care.
  • Initiate and interpret cardiac monitoring for patients on telemetry.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and monitor patient responses, notifying physicians of any adverse reactions.
  • Ensure timely transcription and entry of physician orders into medical records.
  • Monitor the environment for safety hazards and ensure a therapeutic environment for patients.
  • Supervise unlicensed staff and provide constructive feedback to peers.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship; non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens.
  • Full and unrestricted nursing license from any U.S. State or territory.
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program (ACEN or CCNE).
  • Proficiency in written and spoken English.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination.

Nice-to-haves

  • 5 years of experience in step-down, emergency department, or critical care settings.
  • ACLS and BLS certifications are required; BSN preferred.
