About The Position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Progressive Care Unit / Intermediate Care Unit (PCU/IMC) manages and provides high-quality, patient-centered care to adult patients requiring a level of care more intensive than general medical-surgical units, but below that of an Intensive Care Unit. The RN assesses, plans, implements, delegates, and evaluates nursing care in alignment with OSUWMC’s Professional Practice Model, ensuring positive patient outcomes, reduced length of hospitalization, and a superior patient experience.

Requirements

  • Degree in Nursing from a CCNE (Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education) or Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) accredited nursing program.
  • Current, active Ohio RN license or interim permit.
  • Minimum of 2 years of recent, relevant PCU, Stepdown, or IMC nursing experience.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required.
  • Proficiency in electronic health record (EHR) systems, specifically Epic.
  • Strong critical thinking, excellent interpersonal communication, and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced, high-acuity teaching hospital environment.

Nice To Haves

  • NIH Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification highly preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide specialized, evidence-based nursing care to diverse populations, including medical, pre-surgical, and post-surgical patients.
  • Interpret cardiac rhythms, manage telemetry, and respond appropriately to hemodynamic changes and dysrhythmias.
  • Administer medications, blood products, and intravenous drips. Manage IV therapies, central lines, PICC lines, and non-invasive airway supports.
  • Work closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacy staff, and rapid response teams. Participate in code teams and assist with bedside procedures.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and compliant medical records using the Epic Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
  • Provide compassionate health education and discharge planning to patients and their families.
  • Supervise care provided by other team members (e.g., Patient Care Associates) and float to other units within the OSU organization as required to balance staffing needs.

  • Travel Pay Package: Weekly Gross: $2,378
