About The Position

The Registered Nurse is a professional practitioner who assesses, manages, directs, and provides nursing care activities during the patient's hospital stay and coordinates planning with other disciplines utilizing a patient/customer driven approach.

Requirements

  • Licensed to work as an RN in the state of Missouri
  • Basic Life Support HealthCare Provider (BLS HCP) - American Heart Association (AHA)
  • Registered Nurse (RN) - Missouri Division of Professional Registration Or Registered Nurse (RN) Issued by Compact State
  • Ability to relate to coworkers in a professional and appropriate manner
  • Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice
  • Performs job in accordance with safety and infection control policies
  • Provides service excellence to the customers of Saint Louis University Hospital
  • Incorporates Performance Improvement and Evidenced Based Practice into individual professional practice

Responsibilities

  • Performs comprehensive nursing assessment/reassessment, including age-appropriate admission or transfer assessment, assessment of post-op/post-invasive procedure patients, and assessment and documentation of education and discharge needs.
  • Establishes, coordinates, and evaluates a plan of care based on assessment data, patient diagnosis, lab data, tests, procedures, physician orders, protocols, and standards of care.
  • Provides and documents nursing interventions based on assessed patient needs, plan of care, and changes in patient status, including administering medications, monitoring IV fluids, completing referrals, and providing patient/family education.
  • Documents and communicates nursing care and changes in patient condition, including ongoing evaluation of care effectiveness, patient/family education effectiveness, and immediate reporting of significant changes in patient's clinical parameters.
  • Provides specialized care to patients at high risk for injury, including restraint care, pain management, and abuse assessment.
  • Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice by adhering to quality and performance standards, maintaining currency in hospital/unit information, and adapting to changing work demands.
  • Relates to coworkers in a professional and appropriate manner, including orienting/precepting new employees, participating in a collaborative team approach, and functioning as a resource person.
  • Performs job in accordance with safety and infection control policies, including practicing standard precautions, maintaining a safe environment, and reporting risk management concerns.
  • Provides service excellence to customers by delivering timely, high quality care in a courteous and respectful manner, communicating effectively, and demonstrating competence and collaboration.
  • Incorporates Performance Improvement and Evidenced Based Practice into individual professional practice, including assisting in developing nursing unit goals and participating in performance/process improvement activities.
  • Provides age-appropriate care to Adult and Geriatric patients, demonstrating knowledge and skills necessary for their care.
  • Provides cost-effective services by using resources efficiently, recommending changes to increase efficiency and minimize waste, and documenting chargeable supplies.
