About the position

The Registered Nurse in the Operating Room at WellSpan York Hospital provides professional nursing care in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care based on the nursing process and according to the clinical standards of the hospital. This position is part of a weekend plan, requiring work on weekends either during the day or night shifts. The nurse will initially work day shifts for orientation before transitioning to weekend shifts. The role includes participation in an on-call rotation depending on staffing needs and may require working on holidays if they fall on the assigned weekend. The Operating Room has a total of 18 operating rooms, including specialized rooms for open heart and urology surgeries. WellSpan York Hospital is recognized for its robotic-assisted surgical capabilities and is a Level 1 Trauma Center, providing a comprehensive environment for surgical care.

Responsibilities

  • Provides and coordinates direct care in accordance with the principles of patient and family-centered care.
  • Acts as a primary nurse for patients on the unit and synthesizes patient data to develop outcome-driven plans.
  • Safely and independently administers prescribed treatments, medications, and nursing interventions.
  • Organizes and prioritizes time based on patient condition and expected workload.
  • Identifies changes in patients' status and acts accordingly.
  • Communicates individualized patient needs for safe handoffs during transitions of care.
  • Collaborates with patient/family in care planning with all disciplines.
  • Documents patient responses to interventions and progress toward outcomes.
  • Identifies own areas of professional growth and development.
  • Promotes a professional practice environment that supports patient safety and quality.
  • Begins to provide leadership for problem solving and goal formation.
  • Delegates aspects of care to other nursing personnel.
  • Promotes collaboration and cooperation among physicians, nursing staff, and other team members.

Requirements

  • Diploma Program or Associate's Degree in Nursing required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Trauma 1 OR experience required.
  • Licensed Registered Nurse upon hire required.
  • Registered Nurse Multi-State License upon hire required.
  • Basic Life Support certification upon hire required.
