About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) position at Tiburcio Vasquez Health Center is an on-call/PRN role responsible for providing comprehensive nursing care to patients of all ages and backgrounds. The RN will perform triage, administer immunizations, and oversee clinical care while promoting patient health and well-being. This role requires effective communication and collaboration with medical staff and patients, ensuring high-quality care and adherence to established standards.

Responsibilities

  • Perform encounter forms and complete electronic health record entries (EPIC) for appropriate nurse visits.
  • Work independently and as part of a specialty medical team to provide nursing services, including administration of medications and injections.
  • Oversee the smooth progression of daily patient schedules and assist Medical Assistant staff in preparation for exams.
  • Document patient's current medication list and administer treatment as prescribed by providers.
  • Monitor nursing functions at the clinic site to ensure conformance with established standards.
  • Organize orientation and training for LVN and MA staff.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care given by the interdisciplinary care team and make recommendations for improvement.
  • Assess the learning needs of patients and develop patient education as appropriate.
  • Assist in maintaining an accurate inventory of medical supplies and ensure adequate coverage for clinic sessions.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects and attend general and medical staff meetings.

Requirements

  • Current, valid California RN License required.
  • Valid Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation Card (CPR).
  • Preferably two years of nursing experience in an outpatient clinic.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with patients and staff with diplomacy and tact.
  • Intermediate to advanced computing and phone skills.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish or other languages preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Universal Precautions and professionalism.
  • Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a high-stress environment.
  • Understanding of confidentiality and non-disclosure according to HIPAA standards.
  • Culturally sensitive with effectiveness in working with diverse populations.
  • Willingness to work evenings and/or weekends.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a fast-paced clinical environment.
  • Knowledge of community health resources.
