About the position

The Registered Nurse in the Medical Intensive Care Unit (MICU) collaborates with physicians to provide a comprehensive plan of care aimed at returning patients to optimal health. This role involves providing bedside nursing care, executing medical orders, and overseeing the functions of various support staff including Nurse Assistants and Patient Care Associates. The nurse is responsible for evaluating the effectiveness of the care plan and ensuring that patient needs are met throughout their care journey.

Responsibilities

  • Integrate evidence-based knowledge into practice.
  • Delegate and coordinate tasks and assignments of nursing care.
  • Facilitate/participate in patient conferences.
  • Identify and provide means to meet patients' ongoing and discharge/transfer teaching needs.
  • Communicate with appropriate resource persons and attend discharge/transfer planning conferences.
  • Seek out educational opportunities for professional growth.
  • Teach and guide professional and ancillary personnel.
  • Precept/mentor new employees and students.
  • Function as a team leader to ensure proper patient placement and delegation of assignments.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and holding a current license to practice in the state of Michigan.
  • BLS issued by American Heart Association or Red Cross.
  • Must satisfactorily complete ACLS course and Critical Care course within 1 year of hire/transfer.
  • Must satisfactorily complete first available Basic Dysrhythmia course.

Nice-to-haves

  • Six (6) months experience in an acute care setting or equivalent.
  • Critical Care Registered Nurse.
