About the position

ASC Towson is seeking a motivated Registered Nurse First Assist PRN. The position involves assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for all age patients in the operating room. The nurse will provide care within nursing standards of practice and the policies of the Center, making decisions regarding direct patient care needs and communicating appropriate information to physicians, patients, family members, and personnel in other departments as well as team members. Additional responsibilities may include serving on committees, participating in quality improvement audits and projects as designated by the Nurse Manager of the Operating Room and/or Director of Nursing. The nurse will function as a first assistant during surgical incision, excision, and repair of pathology and throughout the perioperative period on procedures for which privileges have been granted. This role supports the mission, vision, and values of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for patients in the operating room.
  • Provide care within nursing standards of practice and the policies of the Center.
  • Make decisions regarding direct patient care needs.
  • Communicate appropriate information to physicians, patients, family members, and personnel in other departments.
  • Serve on committees and participate in quality improvement audits and projects as designated by the Nurse Manager or Director of Nursing.
  • Function as a first assistant during surgical procedures.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an approved school of nursing.
  • Currently licensed in the state.
  • CPR certification required.
  • Advanced life support certification required.
  • One year experience in an intra-operative setting required.
  • Demonstrates clinical competency, leadership, and teaching capabilities.
  • Physically and emotionally capable of performing responsibilities of the position.
  • Excellent knowledge of surgical anatomy, physiology, and operative technique.
  • Completion of an RNFA Program.

Nice-to-haves

  • CRNFA certification preferred.
  • CNOR certification preferred.
  • Two years perioperative services experience preferred.
