About the position

The Registered Nurse (RN) in the Emergency Department (ED) at Cherokee Indian Hospital provides comprehensive health care to patients of all ages. This role involves assessing patients, developing and implementing care plans, administering therapeutic measures, and participating in quality assurance and policy development. The RN impacts the physical and psychosocial well-being of patients and their families, ensuring high standards of care in urgent and emergent situations.

Responsibilities

  • Deliver nursing care to patients with urgent or emergent conditions in line with established nursing standards.
  • Perform assessments, including biological, psychological, social, and cultural factors, to determine their influence on patient health.
  • Review health records, interview patients and families, and document complaints, history, and clinical findings.
  • Develop individualized care plans that address health prevention, promotion, and maintenance.
  • Implement nursing care plans, including resuscitative measures, medication administration, and safety protocols.
  • Ensure appropriate tests, treatments, and medications are administered timely and document findings.
  • Serve as Team Leader when assigned, supervising nursing staff and resolving problems.
  • Provide guidance, leadership, and training to other nursing personnel.
  • Coordinate health care needs through referrals to internal and external resources.
  • Document observations, interventions, progress, and complications accurately in patient records.
  • Maintain adherence to policies regarding Universal Precautions, OSHA regulations, and infection control.
  • Respond to emergencies by assessing and implementing appropriate interventions.
  • Initiate resuscitative measures and patient safety actions as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing training, in-services, and nursing quality assurance programs.
  • Promote patient advocacy and confidentiality in all interactions.
  • Assist during high census periods or emergencies, including rotating shifts and cross-training in other nursing departments.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited Bachelor's or Associate Degree program in nursing with at least one year of recent critical care experience.
  • Unrestricted RN license in North Carolina or reciprocity state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) must be obtained within six months of hire.

Nice-to-haves

  • Trauma Nursing Core Course (TNCC) and Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC).
  • Proficiency in the role expected within one year.
