About the position

The Registered Nurse/Clinical II position in the Emergency Department Unit at Valley Presbyterian Hospital is a full-time role focused on delivering high-quality patient care. The nurse will be responsible for coordinating patient care, maintaining professional communication, adhering to confidentiality standards, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. This role requires a commitment to patient advocacy and effective discharge planning, ensuring a compassionate approach to patient interactions.

Responsibilities

  • Provide comprehensive patient care and education to patients and families.
  • Maintain professional communication with colleagues, physicians, and healthcare team members using the SBAR format.
  • Adhere to HIPAA and VPH policies, maintaining strict confidentiality.
  • Cross-train to various areas within the hospital according to policy.
  • Utilize information technology to document care processes efficiently.
  • Collaborate with physicians and mentors to evaluate and modify care plans based on patient needs.
  • Follow Universal Precautions and VPH infection control standards.
  • Administer medications per hospital policy, reporting any errors promptly.
  • Collect and interpret patient data, formulate nursing diagnoses, and assess patient conditions.
  • Advocate for patient and family values, beliefs, and standards.
  • Provide ongoing discharge education and plan effective discharges from admission.
  • Ensure a caring and compassionate approach, keeping patients and families informed.
  • Support hospital throughput initiatives for timely patient transfers and discharges.
  • Participate in unit or hospital quality initiatives and projects.
  • Exhibit professionalism in appearance, conduct, and communication.

Requirements

  • Minimum of one (1) year of recent nursing experience is required.
  • ADN degree required; BSN degree preferred.
  • Current licensure with the California Board of Registered Nursing.
  • BLS certification required.
  • LA City Fire Card certification within 30 days of hire.
  • ACLS certification required.
  • PALS certification (to be obtained within the first 30 days of employment or transfer).
  • Management of Aggressive Behavior Certification (to be obtained within the first 30 days of employment or transfer).
  • NIHSS Certification (to be obtained within the first 30 days of employment or transfer).
  • Annual Critical Care Swank Stroke Education (to be obtained within the first 30 days of employment or transfer).

Nice-to-haves
