About the position

The position involves planning, coordinating, and implementing patient care for critical care patients. The role requires demonstrating quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice while remaining flexible to changing systems. The nurse will support other nursing units by floating when needed after appropriate orientation and is expected to treat patients, families, visitors, peers, and physicians with consideration and respect. The ability to work well under stress or with tight deadlines is essential.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, coordinates and implements patient care for critical care patients.
  • Demonstrates quality and effectiveness in work habits and clinical practice.

  • Supports other nursing units by floating when needed after appropriate orientation.
  • Treats patients, families, visitors, peers and physicians with consideration and respect.
  • Works well under stress or with tight deadlines.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in the care of patients in critical care unit after appropriate orientation.
  • Maintains ability to perform competencies within the unit and completes renewal of competencies annually.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and the skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Assesses and interprets data about the patient's status to identify each patient/family's specific needs and provides the care needed to the appropriate level.
  • Documents care through appropriate charting and care planning for continuation of care.
  • Demonstrates proficiency in performing low level cleaning of equipment and gross decontamination of instruments.
  • Maintains competency to don and doff PPE for Infection Control measures when performing gross decontamination of instruments.
  • Maintains nursing license following the Scope of Practice for Registered Nursing.
  • Functions as a team member within the unit and the nursing department.
  • Has positive personal interactions with staff, patients, visitors and physicians.
  • Accepts appropriate supervision.
  • Communicates concerns appropriately using the established chain of command.

Requirements

  • Current California license as an RN.
  • Successfully complete all ECCO courses by determined deadline, as assigned.
  • BLS required from the American Heart Association prior to hire date.
  • ACLS, PALS required prior to end of orientation period or 120 days from hire date, whichever is sooner.
  • One year of Critical Care/Telemetry experience with two years Med/Surg experience preferred.
  • Advanced knowledge of critical care/telemetry patients of all ages.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Computer skills preferred.
  • Exhibits critical thinking and assessment abilities to organize work assignments and follow through with accuracy.
  • Exercises good judgment, demonstrates initiative, emotional stability, tact and poise.

Benefits

  • Salary range: $46.39 - $63.95, determined based on experience and internal equity.
