About the position

The Registered Nurse - Cardiology position at VillageMD involves providing direct patient care and coordinating with physicians and staff to ensure efficient patient flow and high-quality care. The role requires maintaining communication between patients and healthcare providers, administering treatments, and managing patient records in accordance with established protocols.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the physician and staff with the daily coordination of patient care and physician access.
  • Function as the liaison between patients, staff, and physicians.
  • Maintain efficient patient flow.
  • Deliver direct patient care within the scope of licensure and in accordance with SMG policy.
  • Collect lab specimens according to departmental guidelines and accurately label specimens.
  • Prioritize patient care by implementing physician orders and nursing procedures.
  • Ensure proper preparation for patient visits and prepare pertinent information needed for patient visits.
  • Effectively communicate problems, concerns, or issues to the Office Supervisor/Manager appropriately and promptly.
  • Assure all patients are correctly identified prior to providing and/or documenting care.
  • Employ appropriate and timely use of Tasking in EHR.
  • Obtain vital signs: BP, temp, pulse, height & weight accurately and completely as required and document appropriately in EHR.
  • Administer injections according to appropriate protocol and document injections accurately in EHR.
  • Demonstrate telephone triage protocols and document in EHR.
  • Schedule appointments appropriately and accurately according to department guidelines.
  • Adhere to universal safety precautions when administering medications and disposing of medical waste.
  • Review and update medication list in EHR and demonstrate understanding of prescription control and prescription refill procedures.
  • Enter orders and schedule appointments in the Practice Management System (PMS) and EHR appropriately.
  • Provide referrals and/or consult orders appropriately and in a timely manner in the PMS and EHR.
  • Check and maintain logs for emergency equipment according to policy.
  • Facilitate transition of care to UCC/Hospital.
  • Maintain proficiency with department-specific equipment, troubleshoot, and report malfunctions promptly.

Requirements

  • Associates degree required; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • New York State Nursing License, ACLS, and BLS certifications required upon hire.
  • 0 - 1 years experience; 2-4 years experience preferred.
  • Ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing.
  • Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to perform diverse work assignments with time limitations with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Ability to use problem solving, critical thinking, and priority setting skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Standard Office Equipment (Phone, Fax, Copy Machine, Scanner, Email/Voice Mail) preferred.
  • Experience with Standard Office Technology in a Windows-based environment preferred.
  • Experience with patient care equipment preferred.
  • Experience with EHR, Practice Management System, and Departmental/Ancillary Systems preferred.
