About the position

The Registered Nurse - Adult Med/Surg position at Northwell Health involves providing comprehensive nursing care to a designated group of patients. The role requires the application of the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation of patient care. The nurse collaborates with physicians and other healthcare team members to ensure effective treatment and patient satisfaction, while also utilizing leadership skills to coordinate care and delegate tasks within the patient care unit.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct patient interviews and explain policies and procedures to patients and their significant others.
  • Assess patients' health status across various systems including gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, and neurological.
  • Determine patients' mobility, sensory deficits, and skin condition, adjusting care plans as necessary.
  • Assess pain levels and manage pain effectively.
  • Communicate and document patients' physiological and psychosocial health status and care plans.
  • Identify patients' coping mechanisms and cultural/ethnic requirements to enhance satisfaction.
  • Develop individualized patient outcome statements and establish goals for care.
  • Coordinate the use of supplies, equipment, and medications to achieve expected outcomes.
  • Maintain vigilance over patient care to ensure safety precautions are followed.
  • Administer prescribed treatments and medications accurately and safely.
  • Provide emotional support to patients and their families.
  • Participate in discharge planning and coordinate referrals as needed.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of care provided and document outcomes.
  • Collaborate with care team members to plan and implement treatment regimens.

Requirements

  • Graduate from an accredited School of Nursing.
  • Current License to practice as a Registered Professional Nurse in New York State required.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing preferred, with enrollment in an accredited BSN program within two years and completion within five years of job entry.
