About The Position

Community Memorial Hospital (CMH) is a 70-bed facility serving residents of over 7 counties, including North Carolina. CMH is a Primary Stroke Center managing acute ischemic strokes within the facility. The Acute Care unit has three nursing units totaling 54 beds, serving a diverse population from pediatrics to geriatrics, including medical, telemetry, and surgical patients. The average nurse to patient ratio is 1:4, with support from patient care technicians, patient safety associates, unit secretaries, and cardiac monitor technicians. The patient care team includes 24-hour Hospitalist and ancillary support. CMH fosters a family and patient-centered atmosphere with outstanding teamwork, aiming for an excellent patient experience. Nursing leadership supports continuing education and offers opportunities for professional advancement. CMH is actively expanding services through specialist recruitment. The Clinical Nurse I job integrates technical skills and theoretical knowledge to meet patient and family needs, assisting the healthcare team with illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort. This role provides direction, education, and begins to acquire leadership skills at the unit level. It involves delivering and documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying incompatibilities and interactions. The Clinical Nurse II job demonstrates mastery of clinical skills and applies this knowledge to specific patient populations, assisting the healthcare team with illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort. This role recognizes and intervenes in changing patient situations, mobilizes resources for individualized patient/family needs, and provides direction, education, and leadership at the unit level. It involves delivering and documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying incompatibilities and interactions. The Clinical Nurse III job demonstrates clinical knowledge at the unit level and applies this knowledge to specific patient populations, assisting the healthcare team with illness prevention, wellness maintenance, and comfort. This role anticipates and intervenes in changing patient situations, provides direction, education, and serves as a role model. It involves delivering and documenting direct, age-specific care based on medical orders and a multidisciplinary plan, and safely administering medications while identifying incompatibilities and interactions.

Requirements

  • Current RN licensure in Virginia or eligible or compact state
  • Current RN licensure in Virginia
  • AHA BLS HCP Certification or equivalent
  • Diploma or Associates Degree from a professional nursing program recognized and/or approved by the corresponding state’s Board of Nursing.
  • All registered nurses without a Bachelor's degree in Nursing (or higher) will be required to enroll in an approved RN to BSN program within two years of their start date and to complete the program within five years of their start date unless grandfathered under previous requirements.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience as an LPN, nursing assistant or care partner in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice (Clinical Nurse I)
  • Academic Health Care Experience; Experience with similar patient population in either an acute care setting or as applicable to area of practice (Clinical Nurse II, Clin III)
  • Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing (or higher) from an accredited program (Clinical Nurse I, II, III)
  • Certification in specialty area (Clinical Nurse III)

Responsibilities

  • Safely administers prescribed medications, identifying incompatibilities and/or interactions.
  • Assists the health care team with the prevention of illness and injury, maintenance of wellness, and provision of comfort.
  • Provides direction, education, and begins to acquire leadership skills at the unit level (Clinical Nurse I).
  • Recognizes changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately (Clinical Nurse II).
  • Mobilizes resources to meet the individualized needs of patient/families (Clinical Nurse II).
  • Provides direction, education, and assumes leadership responsibilities at the unit level (Clinical Nurse II).
  • Anticipates changes in patient situations and intervenes appropriately (Clinical Nurse III).
  • Provides direction, education, and serves as a role model in a clinical setting (Clinical Nurse III).
  • Organizes work and delegates and supervises others (RN's, LPN's, Care Partners, Unit Secretaries, etc.) in carrying out assignments.
