About the position

The Registered Dietitian at Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation is responsible for providing quality nutritional care to patients in an inpatient rehabilitation setting. This role involves developing, implementing, and monitoring Medical Nutrition Therapy, collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to ensure effective nutrition care plans, and educating patients and staff on nutritional practices. The position requires travel between three Northern Kessler In-Patient Hospitals and is focused on improving patient recovery and quality of life through tailored nutritional support.

Responsibilities

  • Provide quality nutritional care to patients through the development, implementation, and monitoring of Medical Nutrition Therapy.
  • Collaborate with medical staff, clinical staff, patients, families, and food service staff to implement nutrition care plans.
  • Provide nutrition education to patients, families, and food service staff.
  • Perform nutrition assessments and re-assessments, identifying nutrition goals and interventions, and monitoring patient progress.
  • Document medical records clearly and concisely.
  • Develop and monitor enteral and/or parenteral nutrition support regimens in conjunction with pharmacy and medical staff.
  • Collaborate with Speech Therapy regarding diet progression and transitional feeding.
  • Clarify admission orders to ensure consistency with established nutrition support formulary and diet manual.
  • Evaluate potential food/drug and herb/supplement interactions.
  • Develop and implement educational programs for patients and staff.
  • Attend interdisciplinary team meetings to communicate patients' nutrition care plans and recommendations.
  • Participate in departmental and facility Performance Improvement Programs, including data collection and analysis.
  • Advise food production staff on special preparation techniques for modified diets.
  • Review and approve general and therapeutic menus and menu substitutions.
  • Perform meal rounds and tray audits to ensure compliance with prescribed diets.
  • Maintain current professional registration requirements and demonstrate interest in continuing education.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with major studies in Food and Nutrition related field.
  • Current state licensure/certification, if required by state.
  • Current registration by the Commission on Dietetics Registration.
  • One (1) year of work experience in a facility setting with clinical responsibilities or equivalent.
