About the position

The Refugee Resettlement Case Worker at Hello Neighbor plays a crucial role in supporting newly arrived refugee families in Pittsburgh. This position involves providing essential services and case management for up to three months, ensuring a warm welcome and helping families adjust to their new environment. The case worker will engage with various community resources and organizations to facilitate a smooth resettlement process, making a significant impact on the lives of refugees as they transition to life in the United States.

Responsibilities

  • Support the Refugee Services Supervisor and colleagues in planning for new arrivals.
  • Manage or support the resettlement of clients ensuring timely delivery of services as per the Cooperative Agreement with the State Department.
  • Welcome new refugee families at the airport and transport them to their temporary or permanent residence.
  • Facilitate housing setup, including gathering household items and furniture, and provide initial housing orientation.
  • Conduct periodic home visits and develop Individual Service Plans in consultation with clients based on individual challenges and needs.
  • Facilitate access to healthcare, social services, and interpretation for multiple refugee families during their first 90 days in the United States.
  • Provide cross-cultural information, orient refugee families to their new community, and ensure a smooth process of resettlement.
  • Provide timely, detailed case notes for all employment and case management services.
  • Ensure implementation of service plans and help clients receive appropriate services from various agencies.
  • Provide community and bus orientation to ensure that new families can navigate Pittsburgh via public transportation.
  • Maintain client files and ensure supporting documents are appropriately curated.
  • Properly track financial disbursements on behalf of the families.
  • Help clients to reach their goals, address challenges, and utilize available resources.
  • Make referrals to external service providers as necessary to assist clients in achieving self-sufficiency.
  • Coordinate interpretation and translation services for families as needed.
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings and relevant staff meetings.
  • Adhere to confidentiality guidelines and ensure the appropriate handling of sensitive information.

Requirements

  • Bilingual in French and Spanish, or multilingual in Dari, Arabic, Pashto, Haitian Creole, Swahili, or other relevant languages.
  • 1-3 years of related and/or applicable work experience, particularly with refugee and immigrant communities.
  • Strong writing and communication skills.
  • Organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable personal vehicle.
