About the position

We are seeking a Referral Coordinator to join our healthcare team, responsible for managing and expediting patient referrals to specialty offices. This role involves various administrative tasks to support patients by ensuring timely and accurate referral documentation is sent to different departments within our facility. The ideal candidate will work collaboratively with a small team to maintain patient safety and enhance service delivery.

Responsibilities

• Expediting patient referrals to specialty offices
• Completing referral requests as needed
• Faxing and sending medical records to various departments for processing
• Maintaining ongoing tracking and appropriate documentation on referrals
• Ensuring complete and accurate registration, including patient demographic and current insurance information
• Assembling information concerning patient's clinical background and referral needs
• Providing appropriate clinical information to specialists
• Contacting review organizations and insurance companies to ensure prior approval requirements are met
• Providing specific medical information to financial services to maximize reimbursement to the hospital and physicians
• Reviewing details and expectations about the referral with patients

Requirements

• Proven work experience as a Referral Coordinator or similar role
• Strong customer service focus
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Teamwork orientation
• Relevant training and/or certifications as a Referral Coordinator
• Experience in insurance verification, PPO, HMO, and requesting and submitting authorizations
