About the position

The Recreational Therapist II position at Hogan Regional Center in Danvers, MA, is designed for an experienced professional to deliver Therapeutic Recreation services as part of an interdisciplinary clinical treatment team. The role involves planning, organizing, and instructing individuals in both individual and group leisure activities tailored to their needs and capabilities, ensuring compliance with agency policies and standards.

Responsibilities

  • Provides input and supervision of Recreation Therapy program development and implementation by monitoring programs and data collection.
  • Assists the RTIII and Department Supervisor in coordinating services by participating in interview committees, performance reviews, and program development.
  • Coordinates and monitors the implementation of Recreation Therapy services through the interdisciplinary team process.
  • Evaluates individuals' needs for Recreation Therapy Services through skill assessment and direct observation.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans and programs by designing recreational activities to achieve individual objectives.
  • Conducts training and consultation to staff and families, and participates in professional development workshops.
  • Reports and documents on individual progress and service delivery, adhering to policies and procedures.
  • Requests and oversees the use of supplies, equipment, and community resources for Recreation Therapy Services.

Requirements

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of Therapeutic Recreation as it relates to intellectual and developmental disabilities.
  • Knowledge of the differences between therapeutic recreation and leisure programming.
  • Knowledge of safety practices and procedures followed in general recreational activities.
  • Basic knowledge of human interaction, conflict resolution, and feedback delivery.
  • Ability to communicate in a professional manner, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to interact effectively with clients and staff, exercising leadership in group situations.
  • Ability to maintain a calm manner in stressful situations.
  • Physical stamina and endurance.

Nice-to-haves

  • CTRS Certification (Certified Therapeutic Recreation Therapist).
  • Experience working in a long-term care facility.
