About the position

The Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, Bureau of Parks and Lands is recruiting a year-round full-time Recreation Trails Coordinator for the Western Region, Upper Oxford, Franklin & Somerset County areas. The successful candidate must live in that area. This is maintenance and personal services position work.

Responsibilities

  • The inspection, repair, and overall maintenance of several State-owned multi-use recreational trails.
  • The coordination of development and maintenance of county, municipal, and private club-managed motorized recreational trails.
  • Conducting field inspections, trail design/map layout using GIS ARC-PRO, trail planning, contract administration, and overall on-site responsibility for carrying out repair and maintenance projects.
  • Supervising trail operations, development and maintenance.
  • Developing interpretive information and programs.
  • Educating the public regarding trail rules and regulations.
  • Providing accurate reports, maps and information as required.
  • Representing the Department's Off-Road Vehicle Office in the region on Trails Advisory Coalitions, Landowner relations, and Snowmobile/ATV club development.
  • Attending Snowmobile & ATV club meetings.
  • Directing management on the trails.
  • Overseeing and acquiring local and state building and environmental permits for construction and trail repair.
  • Assisting clubs with guidance and the application process for permits and grant applications.
  • Performing and coordinating the work of volunteers and contractors in general repair and maintenance of trail infrastructure including (but not limited to) bridges, trails, roads, signage, kiosks, and parking areas as needed.

Requirements

  • Intermediate education, training, and/or experience in outdoor property maintenance, construction, or another closely related activity demonstrating competency in interacting with the public in a group setting and coordinating maintenance and repairs operations.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in GIS ARC-PRO.
  • Experience with ATV and Snowmobile trail activity management.
