About The Position

Under general direction of the Adult & Youth Sports Recreation Supervisor, the Recreation Sports Assistant is responsible for a wide range of duties. Duties may include developing, implementing, and managing various recreation programs, trainings, activities, and facilities. Assisting the Recreation Supervisor with facility rentals, leagues, events, and contracted programs. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including days, evenings, and weekends.

Requirements

  • At least 21 years old or older.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in program planning and implementation, or equivalent, preferably in sports.
  • 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience, in a youth setting preferred.
  • Current certifications in CPR, AED and first aid or the ability to become certified within 90 days from date of hire.
  • Possession of a valid State of Ohio driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Considerable knowledge of principles and techniques of planning, promoting, organizing, evaluating, and conducting recreational activities and sports leagues.
  • Considerable knowledge of various recreational programs and current trends in the recreation/sports industry.
  • Ability to lead a variety of recreation programs and to gain the support of staff and public for these programs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, with other employees, program participants and the general public.
  • Knowledge of safety standards and precautions for recreation programs.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and discretion while working autonomously at times.
  • Ability to use a computer, RecTrac Software or similar recreational management software, email, and modern office equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Plans, schedules, organizes and promotes programs, classes, leagues, activities and/or special events.
  • Prepares monthly and seasonal programming; coordinates services offered; writes program descriptions; enters data into program registration software.
  • Monitors registration and attendance of classes and programs; assesses feasibility and public interest; cancels classes and programs; reviews program submissions from independent contractors; submits periodic reports on programs and activities.
  • Monitors annual program budget and provides recommendations for changes; provides ongoing financial, activity and attendance information and reports to supervisor; maintains personnel and administrative records and reports.
  • Develops and recommends policies and procedures relating to recreation programming, activities, and work areas; interprets, applies and enforces city and department policies and procedures.
  • Reviews, updates, and helps create gymnasium court schedules and equipment.
  • Plans for and reviews requisitions for supplies, equipment, and materials needed for programs, classes, activities, facilities and special events.
  • Promptly report any facility maintenance or safety issues to appropriate staff.
  • Deliver courteous, professional customer service; address and resolve inquiries or concerns from the public.
  • Attends all required training sessions, clinics and workshops as required.
  • Maintains all required certifications.
  • Possesses initiative, independent judgment, and the ability to maintain good community relations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by supervisory staff, including the Recreation Supervisor, Recreation Program Manager, Deputy Director, or Director of Recreation and Parks.
