About the position

The Recreation Coordinator/Supervisor for the City of Pleasant Hill is responsible for planning, promoting, coordinating, supervising, and evaluating a variety of recreational programs and community events. This role aims to enrich the community through diverse sporting and leisure activities for all age groups, while fostering a fun and healthy work environment. The position requires strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple programs simultaneously, ensuring effective communication and customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, promote, coordinate, supervise, and evaluate current youth recreational sports programs including baseball, softball, flag football, volleyball, basketball, and swim lessons.
  • Complete post-program evaluations including patron feedback and program budget monitoring.
  • Identify community needs and feasibility for expanding programming to youth and adults.
  • Manage multiple programs at various locations simultaneously.
  • Oversee independent contract positions such as instructors and officials.
  • Participate in job-related committees and professional development activities.
  • Assist with preparing and administering individual program budgets.
  • Collect program fees and monitor expenditures.
  • Purchase program supplies and maintain inventory.
  • Provide excellent customer service and communicate effectively with participants and volunteers.
  • Utilize computer software for program management and communication.
  • Effectively use advertising and marketing practices to promote programming.
  • Solicit support from volunteers and local organizations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • CPR/AED certification or ability to obtain within 60 days of employment.
  • Valid driver's license required.
  • Strong planning, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of recreation and athletic program administration.
  • Understanding of budgeting and accounting procedures.
  • Ability to assess community needs and implement solutions.
  • Computer skills including spreadsheets and sports management software.

Nice-to-haves

  • Bachelor's degree in parks and recreation, youth development, sports management, or a related field preferred.
  • Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certification preferred.
  • Aquatic Facility Operator (AFO) Certification preferred.
