About the position

The Recreation Aide I - Youth Program is a part-time position responsible for assisting the Recreation Coordinator II in supervising youth at various locations during programmed activities. The role involves promoting communication with parents, enforcing site rules, maintaining equipment, and recommending activities. The aide is expected to be committed to the success of the team and department, performing related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Assist in supervising youth at the Cottonwood Recreation Center and offsite locations during programmed activities.
• Help with games, crafts, special events, tournaments, and other activities as assigned.
• Promote open communication with parents and guardians.
• Enforce site rules through progressive discipline.
• Maintain and care for site equipment and property.
• Recommend activities to the Recreation Coordinator II - Youth Programs.
• Plan and prepare effective and safe programs.
• Observe and develop teaching strategies.
• Modify supervision to address unexpected challenges.
• Demonstrate the ability to accommodate participants with disabilities.
• Prevent, recognize, and respond to emergency situations.
• Perform rescue and first aid functions.
• Document and report incidents and accidents according to City requirements.
• Participate in mandated training.
• Work in accordance with City policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Exceptional customer service skills with customers of all age ranges.
• Effective communication skills with the public and other employees.
• Understanding of youth programming principles.
• Proficiency in directing and motivating large groups of youth participants.
• Ability to lift objects up to 50 pounds.
• Sufficient manual dexterity to respond quickly in emergencies.
• Capability to handle large groups of active youth.
• Ability to meet the demands of a physically strenuous workday.
