About The Position

The Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Driver and Motor Vehicles Division (DMV) Field Services Group is seeking a Real ID Specialist for the South Salem DMV. This limited duration appointment, expected to end on or before June 30, 2027, focuses on assisting the public with obtaining Real ID compliant identification cards. The role involves answering questions related to the Real ID Act and providing customer service for Oregonians seeking compliant identification. This position is benefits-eligible and has a designated maximum length of service, with the potential to become permanent. Requirements

  • Two years of public contact/customer service experience which involved dealing with the public in person or by phone providing information about services/programs or explaining and/or applying rules, regulations and procedures.
  • Experience or training using computers to retrieve and input data.
  • Three months experience collecting money and making change.
  • Completion of an associate’s degree will substitute for one year of the public contact experience.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the public with obtaining Real ID compliant identification cards, instruction permits, or licenses.
  • Serve as a primary representative in the office for Real ID transactions.
  • Accurately produce photo licenses, instruction permits, and identification cards.
  • Administer, correct, and explain driver license knowledge tests.
  • Conduct vision tests.
  • Explain state and federal requirements for various driver and identification transactions.
  • Provide exceptional customer service while adhering to privacy laws.
  • Communicate clearly with customers from diverse backgrounds to accurately answer complex questions.
  • Collaborate with office leaders and managers to ensure efficient operations related to issuing Real ID.
  • Examine documents for eligibility prior to issuing credentials.
  • Prepare daily reports and balance transactions at the end of each day.
  • Travel to other offices in the region to perform relief work.
