About the position

The Rapid Response Team Nurse is responsible for quickly assessing and intervening in patients' worsening conditions to prevent medical crises. This role involves coordinating with team members, communicating with physicians, and providing emotional support to patients and their families. The nurse will also mentor other nursing staff and ensure proper documentation of patient care and interventions.

Responsibilities

  • Rapidly responds to Medical Response Team calls and assesses the patient in need.
  • Collects patient history and implements approved protocols according to hospital policy.
  • Coordinates or delegates tasks to team members during medical events.
  • Notifies the primary or on-call physician using the S.B.A.R. format.
  • Stays with the patient until the crisis is resolved, including during diagnostic procedures or transfers.
  • Serves as a mentor and resource to the nurse caring for the patient.
  • Documents in the electronic medical record and on the MRT flowsheet.
  • Communicates with patients and families, providing emotional support and teaching as needed.
  • Performs follow-up visits at 12 and 24 hours post-event and documents findings.
  • Communicates MRT follow-up needs to other shifts and departments.
  • Responds to Rapid Response Team calls and Code Blue calls.
  • Inserts Vascular Access Devices, including PICC Lines, Midlines, and IVs, documenting all insertions.
  • Ensures proper segregation and safe disposal of hazardous pharmaceutical waste.
  • Serves as a clinical resource throughout the building as needed.
  • Assists in the orientation of new personnel to the Clinical Services department.
  • Contributes to a positive work climate and overall team effort.

Requirements

  • Completion of a diploma, associate, or baccalaureate degree in nursing.
  • Current licensure as a Registered Nurse approved by the Tennessee Board of Nursing.
  • BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required within the orientation period.
  • NIHSS certification required.
  • At least 2 years of current Critical Care experience required.

Nice-to-haves

  • CCRN certification desirable.
