About the position

As a Ramp Service Agent at American Airlines, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of our fleet services. This position involves the handling of items on and off aircraft, including baggage and cargo, as well as the transportation of these items between terminals and aircraft. You will be responsible for receiving, delivering, weighing, and documenting cargo in a dedicated cargo facility or loading dock area. The role requires a commitment to safety and adherence to government regulations, including those set by the Department of Transportation (DOT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), and Transportation Security Administration (TSA). You will also be expected to complete job-relevant training and adhere to company policies and performance standards. In this position, you will work outdoors in various weather conditions and may be required to work irregular and extended hours, including weekends and holidays. Your responsibilities will include moving baggage and cargo of various weights to and from aircraft, driving and operating belt loaders, servicing aircraft at gates with ground power and air conditioning, towing and pushing back aircraft from gates, and cleaning the interior of aircraft when needed. You will also be responsible for positioning beverage and luggage carts around the ramp area and ensuring that all functions are performed in accordance with safety procedures and policies. The Ramp Service Agent position is covered by the Transport Workers Union (TWU) Collective Bargaining Agreement, and the starting pay is $16.48 per hour. Responsibilities

  • Move baggage and cargo of various weights to and from aircraft
  • Drive and operate belt loaders
  • Service aircraft at gates with ground power and air conditioning
  • Tow and pushback aircraft from gates
  • Service aircraft lavatories and water ports
  • Clean interior of aircraft when needed
  • Position beverage and luggage carts around the ramp area
  • Work outdoors in various weather conditions
  • Report to position on time, as scheduled, and at your assigned station or location
  • Complete job-relevant trainings
  • Adhere to government regulations (e.g., DOT, FAA, TSA)
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and performance standards
  • Perform all functions in accordance with safety procedures and policies
  • Wear uniforms as required by company policy
  • Wear all personal protective equipment (PPE) in accordance with rules and regulations
  • Work outdoors with exposure to extreme weather/elements, engine noise, and noxious fumes
  • De-ice aircraft by directing a chemical/water stream at aircraft surfaces (depending on airport size)
  • Perform catering service (depending on airport size)

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED or international equivalent
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Lift, load, unload, and transport bags and cargo to/from aircraft's, bag carts, and conveyor belts
  • Must have knowledge of and ability to use basic computer skills
  • People-oriented and highly motivated, with a positive and cooperative attitude
  • Good communication skills
  • Applicable valid driver's license as required by local authorities
  • Must be able to secure appropriate airport authority and/or US Customs security badges, if applicable
  • Completion of a pre-employment drug screen, comprehensive background check and/or fingerprinting to satisfy company and security requirements
  • Ability to obtain jet bridge certification
  • Must have the ability to pass the US Postal Service background check
