About the position

As a Radiology Technologist I at Optum, you will perform diagnostic X-ray examinations with a comprehensive understanding of anatomy, radiographic techniques, and positioning. This role is essential in ensuring high-quality imaging while adhering to safety protocols and providing excellent patient care. You will work onsite, contributing to a team focused on health equity and quality care for over 2.5 million patients in the Pacific West region.

Responsibilities

  • Perform radiology procedures under the guidelines in the Radiology Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Adhere to safety guidelines, including wearing personal dosimetry monitoring devices and standing behind protective barriers during X-ray production.
  • Follow standing orders and repeat imaging policies.
  • Know exams ordered and radiologist protocol, including proper positioning and shielding of the patient.
  • Review schedules at least 24-48 hours in advance and verify appropriate time frames for procedures.
  • Confirm appointments and greet patients warmly.
  • Conduct infectious screening and provide masks for symptomatic patients, adhering to infection control policies.
  • Provide clear verbal instructions to patients regarding exam preparation and positioning.
  • Verify pregnancy status and consent prior to radiation exposure, referring patients for testing as needed.
  • Assist patients throughout procedures and conduct warm send-offs after appointments.
  • Reschedule appointments with approval from the Radiology Manager or Clinical Operations Manager.
  • Handle radiology equipment carefully and perform daily calibration and quality control tests as required.
  • Identify areas of concern on images and notify the Radiology Technician or ordering provider as needed.
  • Communicate service needs to supervisors and facilitate communication with service providers.
  • If certified in Mammography, adhere to the Mammography Procedure Manual and perform mammograms under guidelines.
  • Review all procedure manuals and know their locations.
  • Disinfect exam rooms and equipment after each procedure and log disinfection processes daily.
  • Conduct monthly inventories of supplies and discard items prior to expiration dates.
  • Conduct Lead Apron testing annually and log results.
  • Participate in department huddles, meetings, and safety meetings.
  • Work collaboratively with team members and clinical staff to accommodate services and ensure adequate coverage throughout the day.
  • Maintain all licenses and continuing medical education requirements, completing learning activities on time.
  • Report safety concerns to the Manager and Safety Officer.
  • Maintain positive and professional behavior with all individuals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience.
  • Graduate of AMA-approved Radiological Technology School.
  • CRT certification in Radiology and Fluoroscopy with the State of California Department of Public Health/Radiologic Health Branch.
  • Current ARRT certification.

Nice-to-haves

  • Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers (AHA).
