About the position

The Radiology Coder position at Banner Health is a fully remote role focused on coding for complex medical procedures within the Radiology department. The ideal candidate will have extensive coding experience, specifically in Interventional Radiology and nuclear medicine, and will be responsible for accurately coding diagnostic and procedural information in compliance with national guidelines. This role emphasizes teamwork, flexibility, and ongoing support for professional development.

Responsibilities

  • Analyze medical information from medical records and accurately code diagnostic and procedural information according to national coding guidelines.
  • Consult with medical providers to clarify missing or inadequate record information and determine appropriate diagnostic and procedure codes.
  • Abstract clinical diagnoses and procedure codes into electronic medical records, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
  • Provide quality assurance for medical records, ensuring compliance with coding rules and regulations from various regulatory agencies.
  • Compile daily and monthly reports, tabulating data from medical records for research or analysis purposes.
  • Identify validation edits and revision issues to ensure compliant coding.
  • Work independently under regular supervision, utilizing specialized knowledge for accurate assignment of ICD/CPT codes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge and specialized formal training in medical record keeping principles and practices.
  • Active Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist - Physician (CCS-P), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA), or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) certification.
  • Three or more years of complex professional coding experience within specialty.
  • Knowledge and understanding of ICD and CPT coding principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Specialty Certification in Radiology (RCC) if employed in the Imaging space.
  • Experience in a large, multi-system physician practice.
