About the position

The Radiological Programs Coordinator is responsible for overseeing the radiological emergency preparedness program for the Ottawa County Emergency Management Agency (EMA). This role involves advising the EMA Director on radiological emergency response, developing training activities, and ensuring effective communication and coordination during emergencies.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the Ottawa County EMA Director on radiological emergency response/preparedness matters.
  • Develop, evaluate, modify, coordinate, and conduct training activities in support of the Ottawa County Radiological Emergency Response Plan (RERP).
  • Assist with radiological program training in Lucas, Erie, and Sandusky Counties as needed.
  • Assist in the development, evaluation, and modification of the County RERP and Suggested Operating Guidelines (SOGs).
  • Develop scenarios for drills/exercises and participate in them.
  • Test communication equipment monthly.
  • Provide assistance during emergencies, exercises, and drills as needed.
  • Participate in public information/education activities.
  • Recruit EMA volunteers.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in risk management, safety, public administration, communications, education, or related fields, or a minimum of four years' experience.
  • General understanding of nuclear power and radiation.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to identify problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with associates, elected officials, department heads, and the public.
  • Exercise sound judgment and prepare accurate documentation.
  • Handle sensitive inquiries from county agencies and the public.
  • Produce clear and concise reports and read complex technical materials.
  • Use effective research methods and relevant computer/software.
  • Valid Ohio driver's license and insurable under County's Insurance.
  • Must take the State Oath as identified in ORC Sec. 5502.34.
