About the position

The Radiologic Technologist position at the University of Utah Health involves performing radiographic procedures using ionizing radiation to produce diagnostic images. This role emphasizes patient care, requiring the technologist to assess patient conditions, administer medications as permitted, and ensure high-quality imaging while adhering to safety protocols. The position is integral to the Radiology Team, contributing to the overall mission of enhancing health and well-being through patient care, research, and education.

Responsibilities

  • Performs radiographic procedures and critiques radiographs to ensure high-quality images.
  • Applies the principles of radiation safety during the process of acquiring radiographic images.
  • Facilitates and coordinates imaging support in the operating room, patient care units, and clinics.
  • Assesses patient vital signs and conditions when indicated during procedures.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions to appropriate personnel and service entity.
  • May assist in orienting, training, and mentoring new employees or students on department workflow, practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Prepares, cleans, and stocks rooms with supplies and linens.

Requirements

  • Current RQI Healthcare Provider eCredential through the University of Utah Health RQI system to be obtained within 30 days of hire.
  • Current licensure to practice as a Radiologic Technologist in the State of Utah.
  • ARRT Registration as a Radiologic Technologist R.T. (R) (ARRT).
  • Proficiency in department exam protocols and procedures.
  • Demonstrated proficiency with all imaging acquisition devices.
  • Ability to perform all essential functions as listed above.
  • Demonstrated effective and appropriate communication skills with patients, visitors, staff, and providers.
  • Ability to select proper radiograph exposure factors and make appropriate changes when necessary to ensure quality images.
  • Ability to prioritize patient workload and be flexible to meet the needs of the patients.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in all radiographic positioning and procedures.
  • Ability to obtain imaging on patients of varying ages and abilities.
