About The Position

Performs routine and specialized diagnostic and technical radiographic procedures at an advanced skill level. This role involves performing radiographic examinations, obtaining patient history, explaining procedures, and addressing patient concerns. The radiographer will demonstrate leadership skills by overseeing the work of other personnel through training, allocation, and monitoring. They will also schedule cases, position and transfer patients safely, and practice radiation safety procedures. Image processing using digital technology, PACS troubleshooting, and EMR proficiency at a Super User level are key aspects of this role. The radiographer is responsible for evaluating image quality, maintaining a low repeat rate, and suggesting process improvements. Collaboration with other departments on projects to enhance care and efficiency is expected, as is creating a positive patient experience and work environment. Quality control monitoring and participation in projects such as equipment QA and creating standards of work are also required. The role may involve cross-training in skills like EKGs, phlebotomy, mammography, and dexa. Common expectations include demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan, providing age-specific care, and adhering to safety regulations and policies. The position also requires participation in safety education and root cause analyses, as well as enhancing professional growth and providing outstanding customer service.

Responsibilities

  • Performs radiographic examinations, obtains patient history, explains routine procedures, and addresses patient concerns.
  • Performs diagnostic procedures in one of the following specialty areas at an advanced level: complex orthopedic, neuro and vascular operating room procedures (includes overhead, fluoroscopic and portable C-arm procedures); or trauma procedures.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills; oversees the work of other personnel by training, allocating and monitoring work.
  • Performs work of a similar nature.
  • Schedules cases to coordinate with other patient examinations.
  • Positions and transfers patients safely and comfortably and explains complex procedure.
  • Immobilizes patients as necessary and practices radiation safety procedures.
  • Properly processes images using digital technology; resolves problems in the PACS and her systems.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the EMR on a Super User level; paying close attention to detail with minimal exam code errors and assists in correcting exams and canceling orders.
  • Evaluates recorded images for technical quality, consistently maintains a repeat rate under the National Standard of 5%.
  • Evaluates workflows and processes, suggests 4Cs through LDMS, assists in 4C and Standard work creation, facilitates huddles in supervisor’s absence.
  • Participates in and collaborates with other departments on projects to improve care and efficiency as needed; participates in at least 2 projects including but not limited to: supply ordering, annual lead management, staff schedule management, etc).
  • Consistently creates a positive patient experience and work environment.
  • Audit quality control monitoring on a monthly basis and report discrepancies to Team Leader.
  • Involved in at least 2 projects including but not limited to: equipment QA (monthly, quarterly testing), creating standards of work, engagement committee.
  • Becomes proficient in optional cross-trained skills(site specific) of EKGs, phlebotomy, mammography and dexa (if applicable to the site).
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span of the assigned patient population.
  • Assesses and interprets patient age specific data and provides appropriate, age specific treatment.
  • Provides direct patient care to assigned patient age group(s).
  • Demonstrates a commitment to patients, visitors and staff by: complying with all applicable safety regulations; learning the impact of medical errors and methodology that will lead to reduction of errors, reporting actual and potential errors, as well as hazardous conditions, identifying opportunities to standardize processes and "error proof" systems that will lead to increased safety; and participating in safety education programs and root cause analyses as required.
