The Outpatient Rad Tech performs professional duties involved in a variety of technical procedures to prescribed ionizing radiation for radiological diagnosis of patients of all ages. The role includes assessing patients appropriately for the procedures ordered prior to, during, and after procedures according to Imaging Services/Departmental Guidelines. The Rad Tech operates highly specialized equipment, including radiographic, CR (Computed Radiography), DR (Digital Radiography), and PACS (Picture Archive Communication System). They position patients to obtain quality images and perform IV contrast injections, urinary catheterizations, and/or other skills as required. Duties also include performing tasks associated with RIS (Radiology Information System) and electronic medical records, participating in the training of students and staff as assigned, and may involve cross-training to perform basic laboratory phlebotomy functions and operating laboratory waived testing equipment according to CLIA regulations. Additionally, the Rad Tech may be trained to perform EKGs. Performing accurate diagnostic procedures on patients requires a reassuring approach, technical skills, and state-of-the-art equipment.
