About the position

The Radcon Supervisor at Idaho National Laboratory (INL) will oversee the occupational radiation protection program within assigned facilities, ensuring a safe work environment for all employees. This role involves providing leadership to Health Physics Technicians and Radiological Control Technicians, maintaining compliance with radiation protection requirements, and facilitating effective communication with regulatory agencies.

Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight of Radiological Control activities and function as a safety observer, reporting potential problems to facility management and Safety.
  • Evaluate and interpret data collected from Technicians and monitoring equipment to ensure a radiological hazard-free work environment.
  • Schedule daily activities of Technicians to maintain the INL Radiation Protection Program and support facility operations.
  • Monitor performance and provide feedback to Radiological Control Technicians/Health Physics Technicians.
  • Ensure proper application, location, and operability of radiological monitoring and counting equipment.
  • Provide on-the-job training for upgrading, qualifying, and requalifying Radiological Control Technicians/Health Physics Technicians.
  • Review all work activities to ensure application of ALARA principles and track job exposure.
  • Maintain cognizance of changing research programs to implement required aspects of the INL radiological control program.
  • Communicate with DOE and other regulatory agencies on radiological issues and requests for information.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 3 years relevant experience or 13 years relevant experience in radiation protection in lieu of degree.
  • DOE Core Certification required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy 'L' clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
