About the position

The World Bank is seeking a Race Equity Coordinator to join the Ethics Advice and Early Interventions Department. This role is crucial in addressing workplace racism and racial discrimination, both at individual and systemic levels. The Race Equity Coordinator will be responsible for implementing recommendations from the Anti-Racism Task Force and ensuring that the World Bank Group (WBG) maintains a values-based workplace culture. The position involves collaboration with various units within the WBG to strengthen the framework for reviewing complaints of racial discrimination and to provide guidance on addressing these issues effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Lead on the tracking and implementation of the ARTF recommendations as they pertain to the EIJ VPU.
  • Contribute to the finalization and implementation of the rules and procedures governing the work of the Race Equity office.
  • Serve as a central point of contact within EIJ to review allegations of racism and racial discrimination involving WBG staff members.
  • Provide confidential guidance and advice to managers on how to address, manage and prevent racism and racial discrimination.
  • Undertake actions to address alleged racism and/or racial discrimination in consultation with impacted staff members.
  • Monitor and seek feedback from impacted staff members.
  • Report instances of systemic racism or policies that disproportionately impact certain races/ethnicities.
  • Provide guidance to senior management on addressing and resolving systemic racism.
  • Assist in providing and facilitating training on racism and racial discrimination.
  • Promote culture change and provide advice on WBG policies to ensure compliance with racial equity principles.
  • Maintain a confidential case tracking system.
  • Participate in the design and delivery of a communications strategy to foster racial equity.

Requirements

  • A minimum of eight (8) years of substantial professional experience in workplace conflict resolution, investigation, law or a related field.
  • Experience in addressing allegations of racism and racial discrimination through formal or informal mechanisms.
  • A Masters' degree or equivalent in law, psychology, alternative dispute resolution, or another relevant field.
  • Experience with racial equity programs with demonstrable outcomes.
  • Comprehensive knowledge, skills, and abilities in addressing, resolving or preventing discrimination in the workplace.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively in a team.
  • Excellent communications and presentations skills, both oral and written.
  • Excellent interviewing and counseling skills.
  • Strong problem solving, coaching and conflict resolution skills.
  • High level of integrity, discretion and sound judgment.

Nice-to-haves

  • Professional training and/or certification by examination in relevant fields.
  • Experience serving in a similar capacity in an international public organization or private multinational corporation.
  • Strong leadership capabilities, preferably with experience managing people.
