About the position

The R D Engineering Manager, Valve New Product, will lead a team in the I&T New Product Development Team responsible for researching, developing, and testing new valve, actuator, and positioner products. This role focuses on aligning projects with organizational priorities and ensuring effective transfer and commercialization of new products into the FCD Business Unit. The manager will oversee the end-to-end product development process, ensuring products meet market demands and company objectives while collaborating with various teams for successful product launches.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with the Project Manager to manage the technical aspects of the project during design, build, test, and deployment.
  • Accountable for developing all technical project deliverables.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to plan and conduct phase-based formal reviews, securing approvals for deliverables from ideation through launch.
  • Assist the Project Manager in developing and maintaining the detailed project schedule for technical aspects of the project.
  • Identify necessary technical skills and roles for design development, forecast NPD technical resource needs, and secure resource commitments for project planning and execution.
  • Support the Project Manager in reviewing monthly labor and non-labor expenses for project estimates.
  • Coordinate all technical solution delivery activities and tasks within NPD, DTV, GTEC, and Business Unit Engineering teams.
  • Communicate project status on technical solution delivery (e.g., issues, concerns) to the Project Manager.
  • Develop a strategy and plan for testing, evaluation, and certification across all aspects of the project/product.
  • Oversee testing and product certification results, including planning, administration, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with the Project Manager to schedule and lead design review sessions as needed.
  • Work with the Project Manager to schedule and lead DFMEA reviews as necessary.
  • Collaborate with NPD and BU Engineering leadership to identify available resources for cross-functional collaboration and support.
  • Coordinate with NPD and PMO leadership to identify and escalate any technology or resource gaps essential for successful project execution.

Requirements

  • 8-10 years of relevant experience in new product development, engineering management, or a related field, with a degree in Engineering or a closely related discipline.
  • Proven experience in managing product development projects from concept to commercialization, specifically within the valve, actuator, or related industrial equipment sectors.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices related to valve and actuator design, development, and testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams and collaborate effectively with stakeholders, including Strategic Business Management, Business Unit Engineering, and global teams.
  • Expertise in coordinating with business units to ensure new products meet organizational objectives in schedule, budget, and scope.
  • Experience in aligning with corporate strategic vision and annual goals while leading new product development initiatives.
  • Familiarity with Stage-Gate or similar product development processes.
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to present project updates, manage resources, and handle complex timelines.
  • Ability to support and integrate outputs from Global Innovation Efforts, such as Flow Solutions, Red Raven, Emerging Technologies, and Energy Transition, into new products.
  • Solid understanding of product lifecycle management and experience with technical reviews, DFMEA, and risk assessment techniques.
  • Project management skills, including proficiency with scheduling and resource planning tools.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills with a focus on quality and continuous improvement.
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% to various Flowserve locations within the U.S. and internationally.
  • Ability to work in a hybrid mode from one of our office locations: Irving, TX, Springville, UT, or Raleigh, NC.
