About The Position

As a two-way information conduit to internal teams, the R&D Laboratory Analyst will perform laboratory testing of moderate to high complexity, document results and provide accurate and valid data analysis. The role involves the testing and analysis of product to determine causes of failure, confirm adherence to specifications and warranty eligibility, and conduct chemistry, chemical and compatibility testing processes. The analyst will operate analytical instruments, test beverages for fit for purpose, and perform analysis using electrochemical devices. This role also includes managing day-to-day metallurgical evaluation testing, supporting laboratory operations, coordinating equipment calibration and maintenance, and updating inspection and test procedures. The analyst will communicate technical information effectively to colleagues and design teams, clarify customer requirements, and identify where additional data or analysis is needed. They will also maintain and diagnose critical equipment, establish laboratory best practices, and ensure safe equipment operation in compliance with safety standards. Identifying lab safety points, completing risk assessments, developing training materials, and enforcing laboratory safety rules are also key aspects of the role. The position may involve any other duty reasonable corresponding with the role.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry required
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Chemistry lab, preferably in a can industry lab or in a beverage industry lab
  • Practical experience with lab instruments such as Infrared Spectroscope, ICP-OES Spectro-photometer, etc.
  • Proven ability to produce accurate technical analysis and lab reports
  • Knowledge of Electro Chemistry required
  • Strong math, analytical, organizational skills, and ability to prioritize workload
  • Proven problem-solving skills
  • Proven communication skills and the ability to work well with others
  • Ability to evaluate information quickly, identify key issues, and formulate conclusions
  • Knowledge of statistics and Statistical Software, MS Office
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - per safety guidelines
  • Mobility to cover expansive manufacturing environment

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree is preferred
  • Knowledge of Polymer Chemistry, TAFEL and EIS testing would be a plus

Responsibilities

  • Perform laboratory testing of moderate to high complexity, document results and provide accurate and valid data analysis.
  • Conduct product testing to determine causes of failure.
  • Conduct product testing to confirm adherence to specifications and warranty eligibility.
  • Conduct chemistry, chemical and compatibility testing processes in the labs.
  • Operate analytical instruments, such as Infrared spectroscope, ICP-OES, and automatic testing equipment to determine if products meet specifications.
  • Test beverages to be packed in CANPACK cans for their fit for purpose.
  • Perform analysis with the use of electrochemical devices (TAFEL, EIS).
  • Independently manage day-to-day metallurgical evaluation testing in the laboratory and address moderately complex problems.
  • Support laboratory operations and coordinate equipment calibration and maintenance.
  • Update inspection and test procedures as needed.
  • Work closely with the Labs, QA, R&D and Operations Teams.
  • Coordinate CSC, Technical Development and Technical Service testing with Lab Technologist.
  • Clearly communicate technical information and/or results effectively to colleagues and design teams on a regular basis.
  • Understand and be able to clearly communicate and clarify customer requirements as needed.
  • Identify where additional data / analysis is needed.
  • Maintain and diagnose critical equipment, including calibration and maintenance schedule.
  • Leverage internal R&D and plant labs to establish laboratory best practices.
  • Utilize equipment in a safe operating manner and in compliance with Novelis safety standards.
  • Identify key lab safety points and complete risk assessments as needed.
  • Develop training materials and facilitate training programs as necessary.
  • Document and enforce laboratory safety rules.
  • Perform any other duty reasonable corresponding with the role.
