About The Position

The Quality Welding Inspector - Low Side Shift is responsible for inspecting product processes and workmanship at various stages of production to ensure they meet quality standards. This includes examining products for defects or deviations from specifications, using tools like calipers, gauges, or micrometers for measurements, and performing final and routine inspections before units are released for shipment. The role also involves ensuring certified prints and production orders align, sections are assembled correctly according to engineering specifications, all standard and special parts are in place and correct, and reporting any rework needed to the appropriate supervisor. Additionally, the inspector will be responsible for inspecting, logging, and testing linear tools, components, and equipment used by mechanics and welders, monitoring operations to ensure they meet production standards by reading prints and specifications, and accepting or rejecting product processes and workmanship. Inspection results will be reported to the production and quality team for continuous improvement. The role also includes cross-training with other inspectors and performing other duties as assigned by management.

  • Experience with troubleshooting fabrication components
  • Understanding and proper use of tape measure within 1/32”
  • Must be able to use overhead crane
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Basic shop math (i.e. add/subtract/divide/multiply, whole numbers and fractions)
  • Must be able to read Production Orders & understand shop drawings
  • Familiar with common hand and power tools
  • High School diploma or GED equivalent

Nice To Haves

  • Welding experience is preferred
  • Have an understanding of B31.5 fundamentals.
  • Have an understanding of B31.5 & CRN requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect product processes and workmanship at various stages of production.
  • Examine products for defects or deviations from specifications.
  • Use tools like calipers, gauges, or micrometers to measure products.
  • Perform final and routine inspections on all sections before units are released for shipment.
  • Ensure certified prints and production orders agree.
  • Verify sections are assembled properly according to Engineering specifications.
  • Confirm all standard and special parts are correct and in place.
  • Report all rework requested to the appropriate supervisor.
  • Inspect, log, and test linear tools, components, and equipment used by EVAPCO mechanics and welders.
  • Monitor operations to ensure they meet production standards by reading production prints, EVAPCO controlled documents, specifications, and tolerances.
  • Accept or reject finished product items, production processes, and workmanship.
  • Report products and workmanship that do not meet production and quality standards.
  • Report inspection results with the production and quality team for continuous improvement.
  • Cross-train with other inspectors at Evapco West.
  • Perform visual in-process and final examination in accordance with B31.5 code, including joint preparation, fit-up, alignment, and appearance of finished joints and welds.
  • Handle the return of damaged units or sections by generating a written report, taking pictures if required, and turning them over to the appropriate Leader and Superintendent.
  • Handle the return and analysis of damaged/failed parts and coordinate the return with Purchasing.
  • Assume all responsibilities associated with certified units (B31.5 Code/CRN, etc.) including witnessing/signing off procedures requiring QC Holds, ensuring all required paperwork is completed by the appropriate personnel, and filing and storing paperwork properly.
  • Meet all quality and quantity standards of the job.
  • Assist with the training of new and current welders.
  • Participate in team and shop business problem-solving activities that include quality, safety, scrap reduction, and process improvements.
  • Meet or exceed annual safety, quality, 5-S, and productivity targets.
  • Attend training courses as directed by management.
  • May perform other duties as assigned.
  • Read and understand circuit drawings, certified prints, Engineering drawings, Production orders, and shop drawings.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the quality manager.
