About The Position

The Quality Project Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating various quality inspections and activities associated with the Quality Program. This role monitors the performance of inspectors and trades personnel to ensure first-time quality objectives are achieved while reporting quality-related activities and issues to management. The Quality Project Manager also coordinates various quality initiatives across all levels of management and is responsible for project organization, scheduling, problem identification, customer interaction, and the implementation of quality plans to support overall project success. The Quality Project Manager reports directly to the Quality Manager, or Director of Quality Programs as required, but will have regular contact with various stakeholders to include trades personnel, foremen, project/program team, senior management, and executive leadership. This position works onsite at our shipyard in Norfolk, VA. Position may require work hours beyond a standard work week to support business operations.

Requirements

  • Must have a bachelor’s degree in business, engineering, administrative, or related field and at least five (5) years of work experience in project management or administrative services. Additional 4 years of related experience can be considered in leu of degree.
  • Must have a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office products and command of various computer programs and database management.
  • Must have effective negotiation, problem solving, and decision-making skills leveraged with excellent communications, both verbal and written.
  • Must be able to develop a vision for the future and create a culture in which the long-range goals can be achieved.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiar with various standards and requirements relevant to industrial fabrication or shipyard operations.
  • Familiar with various welding and NDT requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the inspector schedule to support assigned area (fabrication or shipyard).
  • Manage the tracking, compiling, and submitting of data which may include documenting concerns or disputes/issues.
  • Recognize potential problems early, recommend solutions, and recommend/implement corrective actions.
  • Work with and provide oversight to assigned administrative support personnel at assigned area.
  • Collaborate with Superintendents and Production Teams to develop metrics and reports used to track various quality items and discuss/resolve matters (such as work procedures and complaints).
  • Monitor performance of assigned area(s) and immediately report any issues. (This requires deck-plate/fabrication floor oversight, requiring managers to board vessels or climb structures to perform ship checks and verification of data.)
  • Monitor, coordinate, and manage the required reports and documentation submittals for assigned areas.
  • Monitor, coordinate, and manage any software used to track or monitor quality of products or services.
  • Create, maintain, and analyze process improvements for improved business operations.
  • Coordinate with Supervision, Production Manager, Program Manager, and Safety (and other stakeholders as necessary) to ensure that planning requirements are established/met and resources are allocated efficiently to limit or eliminate any scheduling conflicts.
  • Develop daily and weekly plans for quality personnel in assigned area.
  • Attend various meetings to represent the Quality Department as required.
  • Other duties may be assigned as workload dictates.
