About the position

The Quality Assurance Technician role at Hawaiian Host Group involves monitoring and verifying food safety and quality assurance policies to ensure compliance with company standards and regulations. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining product quality and safety through inspections, testing, and collaboration with various departments. The technician will work under the guidance of the Senior Quality Assurance Manager and report directly to the QA Supervisor, contributing to ongoing product and process improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct incoming inspections for ingredients and packaging, including Certificate of Analysis (COA) and packaging gold standard reviews.
  • Perform pre-operational line checks, including ATP swab and allergen testing, facility and equipment inspections, and employee GMP/hygiene checks.
  • Verify production process control, including metal detector and x-ray operations, net weight, and chocolate tempering readings.
  • Conduct label control verification activities and handle finished product positive pallet release procedures.
  • Test finished products for sensory quality, chocolate bloom, and shelf life.
  • Conduct daily GMP walk-throughs, monitor equipment and facility temperatures, and report pest activity.
  • Support QA Supervisor in ensuring sanitation duties are met according to the Master Sanitation Schedule and SSOPs.
  • Participate in Monthly GMP and Food Defense plant inspections, Environmental Monitoring Program swabbing, and internal audits.
  • Update Food Safety and Quality SOPs and forms using the documentation control program under QA management supervision.
  • Review and file food safety and quality records; maintain QA Logs and trends QA Objectives and KPIs.
  • Assist in executing the QA Hold program and writing NCRs.
  • Help develop new products and commission new equipment, including sampling and testing new formulas and determining process capabilities.
  • Work independently and as a team player, supporting various departments such as production, sanitation, maintenance, warehouse, and supply chain.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED with some college level education in food science or equivalent experience.
  • 2-4 years of related experience, preferably in a food manufacturing facility or food service environment.
  • Strong skills in reading, interpreting, analyzing, and problem-solving with attention to detail.
  • Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Office 365.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule (i.e., night/day shift) and weekends, as needed.
