About the position

The Quality Assurance Manager at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) is responsible for leading a team to ensure compliance with quality policies and procedures related to nuclear weapon engineering and production. This role involves applying quality assurance practices, influencing strategic decisions, and mentoring personnel to meet contractual requirements. The position offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing for both in-person and remote work.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a team to ensure compliance with WTE program quality policies and procedures.
  • Apply formal quality assurance practices and statistical tools to optimize quality management elements.
  • Influence and implement strategic decisions made by senior management and external customers.
  • Establish and ensure WTE programmatic QA objectives are achieved in compliance with LLNL policy and DOE regulations.
  • Maintain QA plans and procedures, and perform assessments to ensure operations meet QA requirements.
  • Interact with program personnel and QA personnel of other organizations, including NNSA.
  • Mentor personnel in QA criteria and its application to their work.
  • Allocate resources, develop work schedules, assign tasks, and monitor workflow to achieve goals.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top Secret clearance at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical field or equivalent combination of education and significant related experience.
  • Significant experience applying sound quality practices within a research and development organization.
  • Experience leading a team of professionals and technical personnel independently.
  • Expert communication, facilitation, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to independently advise and implement solutions to complex technical problems.

Nice-to-haves

  • Significant experience in weapon quality management systems such as DPBPS, NAP 401.1, NQA-1, ISO9001, ISO 17025.
  • Subject-matter expert-level knowledge of DOE regulations and orders pertaining to weapon design and/or manufacturing.
  • Experience in implementation and sustainment of a calibration program for measurement and test equipment.
